9-1-1: Lone Star: Season 1 (2019 - 2020)

SEASON:

Season 1
9-1-1: Lone Star

Critics Consensus

If not as outlandishly fun as its predecessor, 9-1-1: Lone Star still packs an entertaining punch and is a great showcase for the handsomely self-aware Rob Lowe.

Critic Reviews for 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 1

All Critics (11) | Top Critics (5)

There's something almost impressively brazen about the way these shows use melodrama, embracing it like old-fashioned soap opera writers.

The presence of a charismatic and inclusive ensemble is enough to make one wish the show were able to pull back a bit more from its lead. It's not quite an emergency, just something that will take doing as the show evolves.

Owen has many shades of Lowe's "Parks and Recreation" character Chris Traeger, obsessed with his physical appearance and holistic health, and it's welcome to see Lowe talk about fish oil supplements with such panache again.

Those elements are decent enough and 911: Lone Star is still primarily a fun/thrilling escape. I was most amused by the way it uses Lowe, an actor who has become iconic both for his handsomeness and his awareness of his own handsomeness.

With his bronzed physique and chiseled chin, [Rob] Lowe looks like he's doing an infomercial, not playing a character.

Sensitive first responder spin-off has violence, innuendo.

Feb 7, 2020 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

No one can be painted with broad strokes, and to anyone accusing the show of trying to be woke, 9-1-1: Lone Star is enthusiastically nodding and smiling that yes, that is exactly what's happening.

Jan 17, 2020 | Rating: 75/100 | Full Review…

Clearly I have some reservations about the plot of 9-1-1: Lone Star, but if I'm being honest, that's really all secondary to the series' biggest fault: THE LACK OF INTERESTING EMERGENCIES.

Jan 21, 2020 | Full Review…

9-1-1: Lone Star isn't a bad addition to the franchise so far, it's just not as winning out of the gate as the first. It's because they're trying too darn hard to be too many things all at once at the expense of the fun of the original.

Jan 23, 2020 | Rating: 2.5/5 | Full Review…

So as long as Lone Star remembers the enduring appeal of these silly shows, we should be in for another wild ride in the 9-1-1 Extended Universe...

Jan 24, 2020 | Full Review…

It is in the little moments of showing these characters as humans first that this show is going to break new ground and develop into something wonderful and unique.

Bad acting, miscast, and nothing compared to the original...

This spinoff is boring in comparison to the original 9-1-1. I tried but after 3 episodes I gave up as it was hard to take an interest in these characters.

Hate it. Nothing but a far left propaganda show pushing the gay and trans agenda! Done with it!
  • Feb 18, 2020
I think Rob Lowe is doing great!!! Thank you for finally making a show about Texas
  • Feb 18, 2020
Love it. Its sad though that our culture has become so pathetic with the "I'm better than you and I know it attitudes" that they cant just enjoy stupid sitcom shows anymore. Everything has to be political. Cant believe I'm saying this, but for once I agree more with the critics than I do with my own brethren.....sad

Horrible acting, manipulative, poor writing. Silly. What's to like?
  • Feb 17, 2020
This show started out promising, but after 15 minutes it quickly turned downhill. In a almost satirical fashion, they quickly check the block for nearly every politically correct super-minority inclusion into a field that makes it borderline fantasy.
  • Feb 12, 2020
I love it. I love the diverse cast and the colorful characters.
  • Feb 11, 2020
Awful, not much else to say
